Wegovy, or one of its distributors anyway, has been featuring TV ads with sports stars like Venus Williams and Charles Barkley, who both tout the weight loss they’ve experienced through GLP-1. Of course, they don’t say GLP-1, only the product name — Wegovy. Barkley brags that he lost 45 pounds in seven months.
On my Carb Swappers Diet — featured in my book “Think and Grow Thin” — I lost that much weight in six weeks by just choosing the right foods and food combinations.
Bragging aside, I must confess that curiosity — and some medical threats — induced me to try Wegovy in pill form. I tried it for a week, though I started out thinking I’d use the 30 free pills (from a sample bottle my doctor gave me) until they were gone.
I didn’t have to go a full month. The verdict came after just seven days. On the plus side, my appetite was suppressed because of the GLP-1. GLP-1 is a substance — a peptide when you ingest it — that is triggered by your body to indicate the tummy is full and your system is being forced into overdrive if you eat more.
Along with appetite suppression, I discovered that there are some surprises that most initiates are probably not aware of, unless warned by their doctor. The most common side effects are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, and stomach pain. Now, of those I definitely experienced constipation. I didn’t vomit, though something bitter would visit my throat and make me feel like vomiting. I also had to belch constantly.
Now, those side effects, as bothersome as they were, didn’t force me to quit my experiment after only seven days. What did contribute to my terminating the experiment was the horrible depression I felt. I mean, really horrible. I’m not a depressive sort, nor suicidal, but what I felt from taking Wegovy had me thinking I should end it all — I mean, life itself.
I did end things — the Wegovy pill-popping, that is.
I also did some research, and AI informed me that both the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) concluded — after monitoring what they termed “anecdotes” — that Wegovy and other GLP-1 medicines posed no psychiatric risks. After all, what’s a handful of users who find themselves on the verge of jumping off a bridge from taking the med?
Getting back to the main point of my book, and of this website, you don’t need a peptide to lose weight dramatically. I shed the pounds rapidly long before Wegovy and the other meds ever appeared on the scene.
Yes, Charles Barkley, I lost your 45 pounds in six weeks on Carb Swappers, and it took you seven months on Wegovy. It’s much cheaper to “Think and Grow Thin” and then stay that way without costly meds, or the needles used to inject them.
